Elizabeth Hooper Accrued Pension Documents

This is a complete transcription from the National Archives and Records Administration's Record Group 217, "Records of the Third Auditor." The series title is "Settled Accounts for Payment of Accrued Pensions (Final Payments)." The following is from Box 72, File 12519, and is the claim on behalf of the heirs of Elizabeth Hooper of Dekalb County, Georgia for payment of all her pension benefits.
Mrs. Elizabeth Hooper, the widow, had applied for a widow's pension based on her husband's Revolutionary Service on the same day she had applied for payment of his unpaid accrued pension. That application for widow's pension will be transcribed separately.

Revolutionary Claim

I certify that in conformity with the 3d section of the law of the United States of the 4th July, 1836, Elizabeth Hooper of Georgia, widow of James Hooper, who was a Private in the Revolution, is entitled to receive Fifty Three dollars and Thirty three cents per annum, during the time she may remain unmarried, commencing on the 4th of March, 1831, and payable semi=annually, on the 4th of March, and 4th of September.

Be it known, That on the 22d day of January 1841 before me a Notary Public in and for said County, duly authorized by the laws of said State to administer oaths, personally appeared William Morel the attorney named in the foregoing power of attorney, and made oath that he has no interest whatever in the money he is authorized to receive, by virtue of the foregoing power of attorney, either by any pledge, mortgage, sale, assignment, or transfer, and that he does not know or believe that the same has been so dispensed of to any person Whatever.

I, John Glen Clerk of the Superior Court, Court of the County aforesaid, do hereby certify, that the following facts were proved to the satisfaction of said Court, on the twenty Sixth day of September 1840 namely:

That Elizabeth Hooper formerly of said County, died on the twenty fifth day of April 1840; that the said Elizabeth Hooper was a revolutionary Pensioner of the United States, on the Roll of the Georgia Agency, at the rate of Fifty three 33/100 - dollars per annum at the time of his her death; and that she died leaving the following children Viz Milly Word of Franklin County Georgia, Mary Reid now of the State of Mississippi Thomas C Hooper, now of the State of Louisiana, Obadiah Hooper who went to Cuba about Seven years ago and has not been heard from Since and James Hooper of DeKalb [Coun]ty Georgia, the legally qualified administrator of the said [Eliza]beth Hooper deceased.

[Kno]w all Men by these Presents, That I, James Hooper admin[obscured]ator of the Elizabeth Hooper [printed line lost in fold of paper] United States, late of Dekalb County, State of Georgia, deceased do hereby constitute and appoint William Morel my true and lawful Attorney for me and in my name to receive from the Agent of the United States for paying pensions, in Savannah, State of Georgia, the Pension due to the said Elizabeth Hooper deceased (for the benefit of Milly Word, Mary Reid Thos C Hooper, Obadiah Hooper and James Hooper the Children of the said Elizabeth Hooper deceased from the fourth day of March 1831 to the twenty fifth day of April 1840

Some time ago I had the pleasure to forward to you several pension claims, may I ask if they have been received, and claim your early attention as the parties interested have written to me latterly respecting them

Herewith I hand the pension Voucher of the Administrator of Elizabeth Hooper deceased, which is now payable at the Treasury of the United States, Eight Months having elapsed since it became due Should the Voucher prove Correct please send the Amount to me at this place. I believe the original pension Certificate is with you or the Commissioner of pensions, fearing that I should be mistaken in this respect I have written to the administrator of Mrs H. for it

Only by holding the page in front of a strong halogen light could any of these words be deciphered. Fortunately, there seems to be no additional information of genealogical significance on this difficult sheet.]
