Hooper Compass Newsletter

a quarterly publication of

Anne Goodwin's
Family Source Compass

The newsletter focuses on Hooper lineages of southern or frontier locations during the late 18th and 19th centuries. Each issue discusses several lineages or locations. The quarterly Hooper Compass should help Hooper family historians bridge the gap between electronic communications and the print world.

The normal publication and mailing cycle once was November, February, May, and August. For Volume 5, the cycle started in March and will end in December 2004. See the
[pdf] Hooper order form
for subscription information to Volume 6, or to order the comb-bound booklets for Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5. Click on the following links for online indexes for Volume 1, Volume 2, Volume 3, Volume 4 . Descriptions and tables of content for each volume appear below:

The first issue of Volume 5 was mailed in March 2004. Sea-faring Hoopers and lineages in the two Carolinas provided the major themes. The next issue emphasized Hoopers with connections to the Carolinas before the American Revolution. Issue 3 was mailed in September. The final issue of Volume 5 will be mailed late in November or in early December and will include the annual index. Sometime in 2005, a comprehensive index to all five volumes will become available for purchase.

Volume 3, #1 honored Hooper veterans of the 19th century. The second issue covered Hoopers in Tennessee, the Carolinas, Indiana, and Missouri. Because of the editor's cross-country relocation, issue #3 featured Hoopers who themselves made long moves/migrations. The final issue was mailed late in 2002.

Volume 2 began at page 59 and ended on page 142. The ancestry and descendants of William Hooper, a Signer of the Declaration of Independence were the primary focus of the November 2000 issue. The next issue dealt mostly with Hoopers who had Georgia links before 1800. The May issue covered Hooper links in Virginia and Georgia, and included an update on a member of the family of the Signer. The final issue in this volume included reunion reports, discussed a Hooper woman in western NC, and included the annual name index.
